St. Anne’s Students Champion Kakamega Forest Restoration

Kakamega, June 5, 2026 — Students from St. Anne’s Group of Schools Kiminini once again demonstrated their commitment to environmental conservation by participating in a major tree-planting exercise organized by the Kakamega Forest Heritage Foundation.

The event brought together Grade 9 boys from St. Maurice and Grade 9 girls from St. Anne’s, alongside directors, teachers, and fellow learners, in a collaborative effort to restore and preserve Kakamega Forest, Kenya’s only tropical rainforest. Held on June 5, 2026, the exercise saw participants contribute to the planting of 16,000 indigenous tree seedlings across designated restoration sites within the forest.

The annual initiative forms an important part of the Kakamega Forest Heritage Foundation’s mission to protect, conserve, and restore this nationally significant ecosystem. Through active participation in such programs, students gain firsthand experience in environmental stewardship while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

St. Anne’s Group of Schools Kiminini has been a dedicated partner of the Foundation since its establishment. Over the years, the school has consistently supported restoration efforts through the donation of indigenous tree seedlings and active involvement in annual planting exercises.

In addition, the School Director has provided financial support towards the adoption and restoration of selected sections of the forest. Directors, teachers, and students continue to participate in hands-on conservation activities, demonstrating the institution’s long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility.

Beyond restoring forest cover, the initiative plays a vital role in nurturing environmental awareness among learners. It encourages teamwork, leadership, and community engagement as students work alongside conservation experts and local communities toward a shared goal of safeguarding Kenya’s natural heritage.

St. Anne’s Group of Schools Kiminini remains proud of its partnership with the Kakamega Forest Heritage Foundation and looks forward to continuing its contribution to the restoration and preservation of Kakamega Forest for generations to come.

Planting today for a greener tomorrow.
